Narushima Washi, tradtionally made kozo fiber paper in the town of Narushia in the Tosa prefecture of Japan

During the Meiji Period, washi paper production was one of the foundational industries of the Narushima area: some people even maintained an area of their home to house an iron pot of steaming kozo specifically for paper making. Narushima washi was traditionally hand-crafted by up to 120 people sharing production and selling duties working in a shared workshop in the Narushia area. Produced by the same family for generations, hand-crafted washi is now produced by master papermaker Mr. Kazunori Aoki, working at the Narushima Papercraft Center nestled at the foot of a Kumano Shine and Bishamondo Temple in the Naushima area.
